BSPT Adapter
The Tapered Male of the BSPT (British Standard Pipe Tapered) Adapter Mates with a Tapered Female.
The tapered male mates with a tapered female to form a BSPT(British Standard Pipe Tapered) adapter. The BSPT adapter is similar to NPT adapter but they are not interchangeable for the difference of thread pitch. Another important difference is that if insert the fitting half way through, the angle across the flanks of threads is 55 degrees instead of 60 degrees as it is for NPT. Thus sometimes an NPT male is able to fit into a BSPT fitting or the other way around but they will not seal perfectly.
BSPT adapters are popular in UK, Europe and South Africa, and are not common use in North America.
